Our Instructors
Haris Usanovic- Founder & Head Instructor
Professor Haris is a 3rd-degree black belt, owner, and instructor at All Star Jiu Jitsu. He began training in January 2003 after watching Royce Gracie in the early UFC, and from that moment on, he knew jiu jitsu was the path for him. Starting at just 11 years old, he has spent most of his life on the mats, and what began as an interest quickly became a lifelong passion and way of life.
Professor Haris has trained under Professor Eddie Redzovic, Professor Adam Redzovic, and Professor Idris Redzovic, and today he teaches every level of the academy, from kids classes to fundamentals and advanced jiu jitsu. Known for his straightforward and traditional approach, he emphasizes strong basics, solid defense, and practical self-defense skills that carry over into real-life situations. He takes pride in helping students build a strong foundation, believing that true progress starts with mastering the essentials.
What Professor Haris enjoys most is being with his second family every day and making sure the culture of the academy stays strong. For him, jiu jitsu is about much more than technique. It is about learning how to stay calm under pressure, work through failure, and keep showing up through the ups and downs. Outside the gym, he is a devoted husband and father of nine, and family is at the center of everything he does.
Coach Mike
Coach Mike is a 4-stripe brown belt at All Star Jiu Jitsu, where he serves as an instructor, student, and resident DJ.
Mike began training in 2017 after being invited to an intro class by a childhood best friend, and he has been hooked ever since. Since then, he has trained under Professor Idris Redzovic, Professor Adem Redzovic, and Professor Haris, while continuing to embrace the challenges and growth that come with jiu jitsu.
He teaches Beginner & Advanced Gi Jiu Jitsu and brings a conceptual approach to his coaching, focusing on control, decision-making, and understanding options in tough positions rather than just memorizing steps.
Coach Mike enjoys seeing students grow, especially when their hard work starts to click in meaningful ways. He wants his students to leave with more than technique by building self-belief, humility, discipline, and the mindset to follow through on their goals. Outside the gym, Coach Mike enjoys attending stand up comedy shows and sporting events, works in cybersecurity sales, is well traveled, and comes from a tight-knit family with three brothers and eleven nieces and nephews, giving him a strong appreciation for connection, perspective, and community.
Coach Billy
Coach Billy is a 4-stripe blue belt and instructor at All Star Jiu Jitsu, where he teaches both the kids class and fundamentals program. He began training in March 2023 and found jiu jitsu to be a natural fit thanks to his background in high school wrestling. Since beginning his journey under Professor Haris, he has embraced both the challenges and rewards of training, while growing into a coach who enjoys helping others improve.
As an instructor, Coach Billy focuses on breaking down concepts in a simple and clear way, especially for younger students, so they understand the purpose behind what they are learning. He loves seeing students build confidence, have fun, and apply techniques successfully during live rolls. He also works to model focus, discipline, kindness, and respect, making sure students understand that tough training and good sportsmanship go hand in hand.
With experience in more than 100 wrestling competitions and roughly 25 jiu jitsu competitions, Coach Billy brings composure and perspective to his coaching, especially in high-pressure situations. Coach Billy also works as a licensed paramedic and is currently studying to become a physician assistant, bringing that same sense of focus and care into his teaching.
